Cederberg Rural – 5kW Off Grid Solar System

PROJECT OBJECTIVES

• To supply a completely off grid system within a tight budget

The client has no connection to Eskom at all and required a system to be completely off grid with zero supply from Eskom. This is an example of off grid living in a very rural area.

SITE ANALYSIS

• Client required 10kW of power per day.
• Roof size indicated there was enough space to install 8 x 550W panels to produce 14kW per day.
• We focused on a North-East configuration for the panels, as this particular inverter only has one MPPT charge controller, therefore limiting us to the use of one angle only.

SYSTEM DESIGN

• 5kW Kodak Off Grid Inverter
• 5.12 kWh Volta Lithium Battery
• 8 x 550W Solar Panels

TIMELINE AND MILESTONES

• The design of system took place in December 2023
• Installation was completed in one day (January 9th 2024)

CONCLUSION

• New-Tech Power installed a solar system that can provide the basic power needs for off grid living within the given budget.
